Alan is President of Brightworth, a fee-only, private wealth management firm based in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. As personal strategist for business owners and high net worth families across the country, Alan helps clients optimize their financial and life resources through comprehensive planning. He provides integrated financial, tax and investment strategies, specializing in the areas of executive compensation, small business, estate and philanthropic planning. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner practitioner, and Personal Financial Specialist. Alan completed the IMCA Investment Analyst Program at the Wharton School of Business and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst. Alan received his B.B.A. and Masters degrees from the University of Georgia.
Alan speaks frequently at professional conferences for attorneys, CPAs, and financial planners as well as corporate, nonprofit, and faith-based events. He has been a featured speaker at the Georgia Society of CPAs annual Tax Forum, the Atlanta Bar Association's Estate Planning and Probate Section, and the Fiduciary Law Institute among others. Alan has conducted financial seminars at some of America's largest corporations including The Coca-Cola Company, John Deere & Co., Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and Colgate-Palmolive. His speaking topics include Income Taxes, Estate Planning, Employee Stock Options, Retirement Planning, Investment Strategy, and Philanthropic Planning for individuals as well as charitable organizations. He has published articles in the Journal of Practical Estate Planning, CCH Financial & Estate Planning Reporter, the Journal of Retirement Planning and has also been quoted in Financial Advisor and Financial Planning magazines. Alan is a member of YEO (Young Entrepreneur's Organization), the premier, peer-to-peer, global community, network and resource for entrepreneurs.
Before joining Brightworth, Alan began his career in the San Jose, California office of Ernst & Young, LLP. Eventually transferring to Atlanta, he specialized in tax and estate planning for wealthy families as a manager in the Personal Financial Consulting division. While at Ernst & Young, Alan served on the editorial board of The Ernst & Young Tax Guide.
Alan is on the board of several nonprofit organizations. He also serves on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. In addition, Alan provides strategic planning services to several local and national nonprofit organizations on a volunteer basis.
Alan and his wife Melissa have three children and live in Roswell, Georgia. They are active members of a local church where he teaches classes and serves on the stewardship strategy team. A lifelong football fan, Alan also enjoys golf, tennis, and fishing with family and friends. Alan is the author of a new book on faith-based philanthropy entitled The Eternity Portfolio. |
